Jannik Sinner vs Grigor Dimitrov Miami 2024 Final Preview and Prediction

tennis predictions

Sunday’s Miami Open final sees Jannik Sinner looking to move to 22-1 on the year by securing his third title following the Australian Open and Rotterdam. He will take on a resurgent Grigor Dimitrov, who is hoping to win his first Masters 1000 title since 2017. Sinner leads the head-to-head 2-1 currently, with one of those wins coming in straight sets at this event last year.

Dimitrov is playing his best tennis for a long time and his spot in the final is well deserved, as his return to the Top 10 after this tournament. His coaching partnership with Jamie Delgado looks to be working wonders, having seen major improvements late last year and now this. He backed up his superb win against Carlos Alcaraz by seeing off Alexander Zverev in three sets in the semi final. “It was like a dogfight on both ends,” said Dimitrov. “I think we really went at each other, especially after that first set, I felt like he upped his game a little bit and he was very, very strong throughout the whole second set and even in the tie-break. He was constantly putting a lot of pressure on me.

Sinner put in one of his best performances of the year in the semi final, crushing Daniil Medvedev 6-1 6-2 in just over an hour. The usually solid and dependable Russian had no answer for Sinner’s power and attempts to be more aggressive just saw him leak errors throughout. Only Tallon Griekspoor has got near Sinner this fortnight, with all other matches seeing him rarely troubled.

The women’s final saw an in-form underdog prevail but it would be even more surprising to see that play out in the same way here. Sinner loves the conditions here and will do his best to keep his opponent on the run throughout. It does feel like a step too far for Dimitrov but the Bulgarian has to be praised for his willingness to change up his game and improve when it looked like his career would end up fizzling out.
