Carlos Alcaraz vs Grigor Dimitrov Miami 2024 Preview and Analysis

tennis predictions

Carlos Alcaraz looks to make it just two wins away from the Sunshine Double on Thursday, where a win will see him into the semi finals in Miami. He is 3-1 against quarter final opponent Grigor Dimitrov, who actually took the last one in Shanghai late last year. The Bulgarian edged a tight three setter there after having failed to win one set in the previous three matches.

Dimitrov went from playing the shortest match in the men’s tournament to one 2 hours longer, following up his 6-0 6-1 over Yannick Hanfmann with a comeback win against Hubert Hurkacz. Breaks were unsurprisingly at a premium in the 3-6 6-3 7-6 win with both securing just one overall, meaning twelve straight holds sent the match to a deciding set tiebreak.

It was another stress-free outing for Alcaraz, who beat Lorenzo Musetti 6-3 6-3 to earn his place in the quarter finals. “I tried to play my game, play aggressive with my shots, go to the net, drop shots, my style. I think I did pretty well and I’m really happy with my performance.” he said after the match, which saw him put up very productive numbers when going to the net.

While Dimitrov is capable of troubling Alcaraz, the previous three matches are probably more of an indication of how this one should go rather than their most recent meeting. The Indian Wells champion was low on confidence at that point, something you definitely can’t say this time round. Alcaraz is back to his best and looks near unbeatable on slow to medium hard courts at this stage.
