Iga Swiatek looks to continue her winning streak on Monday evening but faces a tough one against Ekaterina Alexandrova, who she holds a 3-1 record against so far. The Russian was a quarter finalist at this event last year, losing to the eventual champion Petra Kvitova.

Alexandrova managed to come through a tight three setter with her fellow Russian in the previous round, hitting 9 aces in the 6-4 3-6 6-3 win over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Despite having one of the better serves on the WTA, she has failed to take next step even with being a long term consistent top 20 player.

Swiatek actually looked vulnerable for once in her last match, almost getting taken out by Linda Noskova for the second time this year. Up 5-2 in the first set, she would go on to lose it before fighting back for a 6-7 6-4 6-4 win. “For sure I’m taking just experience from this match and I know what I have to focus on little bit more because it wasn’t like I felt 100 percent comfortable all the time. I mean, I thought it’s going to be easier to get used to the new conditions and new balls, but it’s been tricky today.” she said.

Having escaped last time out, Swiatek will want to come out quickly to avoid getting drawn into a scrappy affair. The courts do favour the top seed a bit less so there will be opportunities for Alexandrova as long as she has a good serving day. You’d still fancy Swiatek to eventually grind her way through this one but on a number of occasions, a struggling win for her has been a precursor to an eventual loss.
