Caroline Garcia vs Naomi Osaka Miami 2024 Preview and Prediction

One of the standout matches on Day 6 on the WTA side of the draw undoubtedly has to be the clash between Caroline Garcia and Naomi Osaka. It will be the third meeting of the year between the two with Garcia winning at the Australian Open before Osaka beat the Frenchwoman in straight sets in Doha.

After a slow start to her return, Osaka does look to be gaining form and confidence in North America. Her win over Elina Svitolina on Saturday saw her make it two wins at both Indian Wells and Miami, with another winnable one up next. Even with the question marks over Svitolina’s fitness, the 6-2 7-6 win is still one to be very happy with. “I definitely do think it was one of my best matches, if not the best match,” Osaka said afterward. “I knew that she’s a great player, and I had no choice but to play really well if I wanted a chance to win.”

Garcia’s match with Viktoriya Tomova did not complete due the Bulgarian’s injury-enforced retirement but given she was 6-2 5-2 up at the time, it can essentially be treated as a full match. Garcia has not had a good start to the year with just a 4-6 record in main draws, something that will likely see her outside the Top 30 soon unless she can pull off a deep run somewhere.

Osaka’s movement is improving now and that will be a key against Garcia, who has the power to leave her flatfooted otherwise. She will likely be in her comfort zone here too, taking on a big hitter who she will fancy she can match her for power rather than a scrambling retriever that hopes to break her down. Her endurance is still to be tested but things are looking up for the 2022 finalist, who will be disappointed the clay season is looming just as she appears to be gaining momentum.

Prediction – Naomi Osaka in three sets
