Elena Rybakina vs Karolina Pliskova AO 2024 Preview and Prediction

tennis predictions

A losing finalist last year, Elena Rybakina will want will want to show her run was no fluke and repeat or even go one better in 2024. She faces Karolina Pliskova in what looks an interesting clash on paper. However, the head to head is currently 3-0 in the Kazakh’s favour with even their earliest meeting being a one-sided win against the then World No.3 Czech.

Rybakina established her credentials early this year with a dominant win over Aryna Sabalenka in the Brisbane final. She dropped just three games in her victory and broke the Belarussian’s serve five times overall. It will give her plenty of confidence should a rematch happen, especially with how recent big slam matches have played out. Rybakina is unlikely to be too concerned about her Adelaide loss to Ekaterina Alexandrova the week after, with enough game time under her belt in the runup to this event.

Pliskova began her season by seeing off a returning Naomi Osaka in Brisbane but she did need to come from a set down to do so. Holding her own in a three set loss against Jelena Ostapenko is no shame but she will be highly disappointed with her Adelaide performance, losing 6-2 6-1 to Katerina Siniakova.

Pliskova may still be dangerous on her day but looks a long way from the player that was a World No.1 and two time slam finalist. Rybakina could be considered a better and more consistent version of her at this stage with any loss for the third seed likely to come as a result of an error filled performance.
