Petra Kvitova vs Caroline Wozniacki US Open 2023 Prediction and Analysis

tennis predictions

Petra Kvitova and Caroline Wozniacki will have an unlikely fifteenth meeting of their career, facing off under the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday night. It was actually the returning Dane who won the last meeting between the two, taking it in three in Singapore back in 2018.

Wozniacki is 2-2 with her current wins suggesting she should easily be around Top 100 level but her ability to compete at her previous level needs far more evidence. She beat Tatiana Prozorova easily despite hitting 21 unforced errors to only 10 winners in the 6-3 6-2 victory. Her other win came against Kimberly Birrell in her first match back while Varvara Gracheva and Marketa Vondrousova both won easily in straight sets against the former No.1.

Kvitova hit 34 winners in her first round match, helping her to victory over Cristina Bucsa. She was up 6-1 4-1 against the Spaniard but was pegged back, eventually taking the second in a tiebreak to advance. She had made a brief return to the Top 10 this year but a poor North American hard court swing has pushed her back to just outside at No.11.

It would be a major shock to see Kvitova blow this one during such an early stage of the Wozniacki comeback. A clash between two slam winners may have a big match feel but it is unlikely to live up to any hype with the Czech sure to cruise through this one if she is having anything better than any of her worst days.
