The night session match between Carlos Alcaraz and Stefanos Tsitsipas does have the potential to be one of the matches of the tournament but will require both men to bring their A-game to this one. It’s a matchup that Alcaraz has dominated so far in the early stages of his career, already leading 4-0 with the most recent win coming in straight sets in the Barcelona final.
Alcaraz vs Tsitsipas Video Prediction and Analysis
Tsitsipas’ failure to win a clay title in the lead in to Roland Garros did lead to a bit of a dampener being put on his chances here but he has navigated the first week of the tournament with relative ease. He took Sebastian Ofner apart with a clean display, hitting 27 winners to just 12 unforced errors in the 7-5 6-3 6-0 win. “I kept the focus locked in. I felt like I read his game at some point. I felt like I was getting into the match stronger and stronger. More games and more opportunities I got to kind of hit balls and stay in rallies and read rallies. I got a sense of how I can win more points against him. It helped a lot.” he said after.
Alcaraz’s clash with Lorenzo Musetti was dubbed by many as a potential thriller but a spectacular performance from the Spaniard meant that there wasn’t a great deal of drama in this one. He fell down 0-2 to begin the match but seized control from that point onwards, showcasing a great display of hitting on his way to a 6-3 6-2 6-2 victory. “I think I played such a great level,” said Alcaraz in his on-court interview. “A really high quality of shots, playing really aggressive. I think I played a really complete match, [from the] first ball to the last one, and I’m really happy to get through this really tough round against Lorenzo.”
Tsitsipas is going to need another lights out display to have a chance of winning this one, against a much better mover and defender than Ofner. The matchup with Alcaraz has not favoured him, with the failure to make inroads on the Spaniard’s serve being highly damaging during previous meetings. “I need to play good tennis. Carlos is someone that keeps the intensity high at all times. He’s someone that is not going to give you gaps where his attention is not there,” Tsitsipas said. “He’s very energetic, and you can see that on the court.
