Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Taylor Fritz Monte Carlo 2023 QF Preview

tennis predictions

With Novak Djokovic’s shock loss on Thursday, defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas‘s chances of a threepeat have gone way up at the Monte Carlo Masters. The Greek will play Taylor Fritz for a spot in the semi finals, hoping to extend his head to head record to 3-0 in this matchup.

Tsitsipas navigated a potentially tricky clash with Nicolas Jarry in fairly routine style, never giving up serve during his 6-4 6-3 win against the Chilean. He continues to thrive in the conditions at this tournament and with this win moves to 14-2 in Monte Carlo. “I had to deal with a few [tough] points, especially when he had break points,” he said. “I dealt with those situations very maturely and played precisely, so it was great out there.”

Fritz had to come from a set down to get to this stage, eventually seeing off Jiri Lehecka 4-6 6-4 6-1. It has been an impressive start to the season for Fritz, who has made the quarter finals in every tournament he has played this year except for the Australian Open. With no points to defend until the French Open, he should remain in the Top 10 easily and potentially make a challenge for the top 8 seeds come Paris depending on how he copes in Madrid and Rome.

Fritz is not a poor player by any means on clay and his serve will help him out during this part of the season but you have to go with the hot streak of Tsitsipas at this stage. The second seed remains one of the best players on the surface and finally looks to be fit again following his shoulder issues.
