Daniil Medvedev looks to continue his excellent run of form in 2023, facing Quentin Halys in the fourth round of Miami. The Russian has won 20 of his last 21 matches with that one loss coming to the unstoppable Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells final. The pair do come from the same juniors year but their pro careers have been wildly different since then.

Mevdevev will be the benefit of a few more days recovery and rest time after Alex Molcan withdrew with a hip injury before their scheduled third round matchup. He will be happier to return to faster conditions after Indian Wells and showed that in his only match of the tournament so far, easing past Roberto Carballes Baena 6-2 6-1.

Halys had been floating between the 100 and 200 rankings for many years but a breakthrough for the once-hyped Frenchman took a lot of time to come. He broke into the Top 100 last summer and has stayed there since, peaking at 61 at the start of the year. A Challenger semi final gave him confidence coming into Miami with Halys picking up three more to get to this stage. He saved all six break points against Mackenzie Macdonald on his way to a 7-6 6-3 win.

A well rested Medvedev is likely to ease through this one with Halys rarely troubling any of the top players in the game. The Frenchman will have to go for it against the Indian Wells finalist as he will not be able to live with him in the rallies and that strategy is always going to end badly against someone as solid as Medvedev. With only Stefanos Tsitsipas looking like a threat in the bottom half of the draw, the possibility of a rematch of the Indian Wells final is quite high assuming Carlos Alcaraz also does the business on his side of the draw.
