While many eyes will already be set on another fourth round clash between Aryna Sabalenka and Barbora Krejcikova, both women do have one more match to win. Sabalenka will need to see off another Czech in Marie Bouzkova in what is the first meeting between the pair.
Bouzkova is a fairly impressive counterpuncher and as such should remain a constant within the top 50 for large parts of her career. There have been some struggles this year though as she looks to build on a 2022 that saw her achieve a career high ranking. She was on a three match losing streak before this tournament, stopping that with a 3-6 6-4 6-3 comeback victory against Anna Blinkova in her opener.
We have got all the H2H match stats for you.
Sabalenka bounced back from the disappointment of Indian Wells final loss with a straight sets win against Shelby Rogers in her first match of the tournament. She did need a medical timeout in the second set of her 6-4 6-3 win but did go on to win the last five games of the second set to avoid further trouble. “For now I feel fine. I will try to fix this problem and be ready for the next match,” Sabalenka said after the win. “It was definitely a tough match. Super happy that even if I was struggling with my leg a little bit I was able to finish the match in two sets.”
Bouzkova can definitely remain steady enough to pick up the win in this one if Sabalenka’s injury is worse than she let on. Otherwise, it seems hard to see her having enough to trouble the 2023 version of Sabalenka. The Belarussian is incredibly confident right now and rather than resting on her Australian Open success, is targeting more including the No.1 spot in the WTA rankings.
