Elena Rybakina vs Anna Kalinskaya Miami Open 2023 Prediction

Elena Rybakina will look to continue her impressive form in her opening match in Miami, taking on Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya for a spot in the last 32. The Indian Wells champion will want to further establish herself in the top group of players and what better way to do that than by becoming the next player to complete the Sunshine Double – a feat made a little easier by the withdrawal of Iga Swiatek.

Kalinskaya beat the highly rated Victoria Jimenez Kasinsteva fairly easily in round one, getting broken just once in the 6-4 6-2 win over the youngster. She hits big on the forehand but often struggles for consistency, as shown by her current failure to break into the Top 50.

Rybakina will be delighted to get some level of revenge against Aryna Sabalenka, with her impressive 7-6 6-3 win at Indian Wells going some way to make up for her Australian Open final loss. The Kazakh continues to improve and is now developing good rivalries with both No.2 Sabalenka and No.1 Swiatek. “I’m really happy that I actually managed to play until the end of this tournament because it was tough conditions. I kept saying it was a bit slow for me and in the end, I have to change my mind now coming back next year. All these things came together.” she said.

Rybakina will be the heavy favourite for this one in her current form with Kalinskaya unlikely to have more chance of overpowering her on the forehand side. Even on slower surfaces, the Indian Wells champion’s serve remains a major threat and should further help her through this one. She is a top 5 player in all but rank but should finally achieve that in the next few months at this rate.
