The Andy Murray experience continues in Miami with the two-time champ facing Dusan Lajovic in the opening round of Miami. Murray matches in 2023 have had a lot of drama in the first three months of the season and a matchup with a grinder like Lajovic has the potential to be another lengthy one if he is below par.

It remains clear that Lajovic is most comfortable on clay with hard courts rarely producing good results for the Serbian. He had a good month in South America with three quarter finals from four tournaments there before crashing back down to Earth during his return to hard courts with Tennys Sandgren leading 6-2 4-1 against him before he retired at Indian Wells.
After thrilling three set wins throughout the year so far, Murray did achieve his first straight sets at Indian Wells. He cruised past Radu Albot in straight sets, stopping the Moldovan from getting a break point in the 6-4 6-3 win. Jack Draper beat him easily in the next round but Murray has been playing well so far this year and will take a lot from his start to the season.
Even on hard courts more akin to clay style, Lajovic has shown no signs of improvement on the surface or the ability to trouble Top 100 level players. Murray should be hoping for another comfortable outing like the Albot match with Miami often producing good results for him during his peak years. Although it would most likely be a one-sided affair, people will be looking towards a potential third rounder between Murray and new World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz (current H2H 1-1) with the pair yet to meet since the Spaniard established himself at the very top.
