Novak Djokovic vs Jan Lennard Struff French Open 2019 Preview

Novak Djokovic

The fourth round at the French Open continues with all of the top men’s contenders still in the draw. Novak Djokovic will seek to follow Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer into the quarter-finals by defeating Jan Lennard Struff on Monday.

It won’t be ideal for Struff to be going into a grind with Djokovic on the back of a marathon match but that won’t matter too much to the German who achieved a career best slam performance with the win. He was on court for over 4 hours before closing out a shock win over Borna Coric, 4-6 6-1 4-6 7-6 11-9. He came from a break down in the final set to advance to his first fourth round in Paris. The German will find himself inside the top 40 for the first time after the tournament thanks to his impressive run.

Djokovic eased past Salvatore Caruso in his match, beating the Italian qualifier 6-3 6-3 6-2. There was little doubt in the outcome with Djokovic dominating on return while also remaining very strong on his first serve.”I had to change my tactics quite a bit throughout the match. I think midway through the match I stepped it up a little bit. I feel like I took my game to a different level, which then resulted with an easier third set. It was a straight-sets win, but… it was tougher than the score indicated.”

“It’s been a while since I have performed here for the first time, but I still want to keep going. Obviously I have been playing really well this year, and reaching a second week of a Slam is a success, the matches are going to get more challenging because the opponents you’re going to play are better quality and higher-ranked and so forth. So it’s going to get only tougher from here. But I look forward to it.” Djokovic added. Things may finally go up a notch in the quarter finals with the World No.1 slated to play either Fabio Fognini or Alexander Zverev.

Prediction – Novak Djokovic in straight sets
