Second seed Caroline Wozniacki looks to continue her run in Melbourne with Magdalena Rybarikova next on the slate for her. Although World No.4 Elina Svitolina remains in the draw, the draw is shaping up nicely for Wozniacki should she advance here with the winner of Anett Kontaveit and Carla Suarez Navarro awaiting in the quarter finals. Wozniacki’s win over Kiki Bertens was fairly routine, beating the Dutchwoman 6-4 6-3 and giving up her serve just once. “I think I played well in a big part of the match. She stepped it up. She started serving really well, getting a lot of first serves in, which made it difficult.” she said post-match. It was another umpiring controversy that garnered much of the attention in this match, with Wozniacki losing her cool once more at what she perceived to be a bad decision late on in the match. “I think he did a poor job today. If the court is wet, I think it’s normal to ask for a towel. I don’t think someone needs to be rude, and I told him so. I think there were some questionable calls, as well.” she added. Rybarikova won an up and down match against Kateryna Bondarenko to make it this far. Rybarikova needed to come from a 5-3 40-0 down to win the first set before the Ukranian tied it up at 1 set apiece. The decider had little drama as Rybarikova pulled away to take it 6-1. Rybarikova has proven herself to be a capable top 30 player over the past 6-8 months after her recovery from injury sent her tumbling down the rankings. Whether she can shock Wozniacki or not, she may find herself with a career high ranking at 19 or above. Wozniacki got out of jail once, coming from 5-1 down to beat Jana Fett. Rybarikova will be a tricky opponent for her but once more doesn’t fit the traditional big power player that breaks the Dane down at slams. Wozniacki leads the head to head 3-1, although they have not played since 2014.
