Serena Williams looks to move one step closer to her 22nd grand slam and a possible Final meeting with her sister on Thursday when she takes on Elena Vesnina to kick off the days play on Centre Court on Women’s Semi Final day. Check out the Williams vs Vesnina Head to Head stats. Serena saw off Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the quarter finals with an efficient display, winning 6-4 6-4 in 1 hour and 12 minutes. She served well, hitting 11 aces and dropping just four points on her first serve. In addition, she did not face a single break point and took both of the chances she had on the Russian’s serve for a single break in each set. It will be her third match in a row against a Russian after wins over Pavlyuchenkova and Kuznetsova so far this week. In a quarter that included Agnieszka Radwanska, Petra Kvitova, Belinda Bencic and Ekaterina Makarova, noone expected Elena Vesnina to be the one to progress but she did with a little from help from not having two play the first three listed. She did however beat good friend and doubles partner Makarova 9-7 in the third set before a very straight forward win in the quarter finals against Dominika Cibulkova. Cibulkova had won her previous match with the same scoreline in the third set but looked off the pace compared to her Russian opponent who broke four times and didn’t face a single break point. Serena was full of praise for semi final opponent when question saying “She has a really good grass court game, I think. She has a really good serve. I notice that she always works on things and she always improves her game. She’s also very aggressive and comes to the net”. Vesnina can break into the top 20, a career high, with a win but it looks very unlikely based on previous meetings. Serena has won all four matches and never lost more than 4 games in a set on every occasion. “That’s a dream semifinal. I think nothing can be better than playing against Serena in semifinal on Centre Court at Wimbledon. It’s special.” Vesnina said when asked about the matchup. Beating Serena on Centre Court at Wimbledon would be even better but with an opponent dead set on ensuring she matches Steffi Graf’s open era record of 22, Vesnina will have a tough time and it might be a matter of how many games she wins rather than if she can win. Also scheduled on Thursday – Serena Williams/Venus Williams vs Ekaterina Makarova/Elena Vesnina in the Women’s Doubles quarter finals. Success might be more likely there, but the sisters still represent a tough match in the doubles. Prediction – Serena Williams in straight sets 6-4 6-3For additional head to head predictions of Elena Vesnina Serena Williams, you can see detailed H2H stats for Elena Vesnina vs Serena Williams.
