Andy Murray will be guaranteed the safety of the Centre Court roof when he plays his round two match against Yen-Hsun Lu on Thursday, in a day expected to be hit by weather once more after Wednesday saw a near washout. Murray’s win in round one was fairly routine, defeating fellow Brit Liam Broady 6-2 6-3 6-4. It was an ideal start for the No.2 seed, who extend his winning streak on grass to six matches after his Queens title of a fortnight ago. Murray was rarely troubled on serve in the previous round, facing just two break points and saving both of them in addition to an accomplished performance at the net where he won 18 of 19 points. While Murray was generally happy with Tuesday’s performance he recognised there was room for improvement. “(I) felt like I could have moved, you know, a little bit better. I didn’t defend as well as usual.” the Scot said after his match. Murray takes on an opponent in great form on grass, albeit at a lower level. Lu chose to play Challengers to warm up for the grass and it paid dividends with two titles at Ilkley and Surbiton with only Dustin Brown denying him a treble in the Manchester final. While he did only beat three players inside the top 100 in getting those results, he is also a better player on grass than his ranking of 76 suggests. Lu does have previous pedigree on grass too, once making the Wimbledon quarter finals in 2010 with a notable victory over Andy Roddick on the way there. It’s unlikely Murray will face too much difficulty in making the third round. A similar result to their 2013 Wimbledon meeting of 6-3 6-3 7-5 seems on the cards and Murray will take that and a place in the third round where Benoit Paire is a likely opponent. Prediction – Benoit Paire in straight sets
