Alexandr Dolgopolov Undergoes Successful Surgery, Says He Will Be ‘Back Soon’

 Alexandr Dolgopolov

World No. 21 Alexandr Dolgopolov successfully underwent surgery to rectify problems with his knee following the bet-at-home Open in Hamburg.

Dolgopolov reached the third round  in Hamburg, which was better than his performances at the event over the past few years but was not enough, as he lost a close three set battle to Tobias Kamke. Following the loss, Dolgopolov took to Instagram to reveal that he would likely be undergoing knee surgery following the event but did not go into detail regarding the extent of the injury or how long his timetable for recovery will be like.

After going under the knife recently, the Ukrainian took to Instagram to update his fans following the operation and stated that he will be ‘back soon.’

Dolgopolov has enjoyed a fantastic resurgence in 2014 that has seen him win 26 matches on the tour. He has reached the quarter-finals (or better) of six tournaments he has taken part in so far this season, including the finals of the inaugural Rio Open (lost to Nadal) and the semi-final round at indian Wells (lost to Roger Federer). He plateaued noticeably in the second quarter of the season, as he reached the second round of the French Open and the third round of the Wimbledon Championships.

The Ukranian is yet to withdraw from the US Open but it is unlikely that he will manage to take part in the upcoming North American hard court swing.
