Alexandr Dolgopolov to Undergo Knee Surgery

Alexandr Dolgopolov

In a surprising twist of fate for resurgent Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov will be forced to make a home on the sidelines as he prepares to undergo surgery to rectify an issue with his knee.

Dolgopolov had reached the third round of the bet-at-home Open in Hamburg, which was better than his performances at the event over the past few years, yet it was not enough as he lost a close three set battle to Tobias Kamke.

Following the loss, Dolgopolov took to Instagram to reveal that he would likely be undergoing knee surgery following the event but did not go into detail regarding the extent of the injury or how long his timetable for recovery will be like.

“I am really unhappy to announce that I injured my knee in Hamburg and I will probably need a surgery and will be out for 4-6 weeks. Disappointing, specially not playing the great event in Umag, the Us series and Davis cup play offs:((( hopefully il be back ASAP.”

Dolgopolov’s participation in the US Open is still unclear, as the season’s final Grand Slam is scheduled to begin in just over five weeks.
