Eugenie Bouchard vs Silvia Soler-Espinosa Preview – Wimbledon 2014 Round 2

Eugenie Bouchard

Canadian darling Eugenie Bouchard continued her display of brilliance at Grand Slam tournaments in 2014 to advance to the second round of the Wimbledon Championships. Next for Bouchard is a match-up against Silvia Soler-Espinosa, whom she met previously at Strasbourg last year and leads 1-0 in the head-to-head series.

Following the news that Eugenie Bouchard had signed a sponsorships contract with Coca-Cola, the rising WTA star extended her Grand Slam wins this season to 11 with a 7-5, 7-5 win over the formidable Daniela Hantuchova. The No. 13 seed didn’t have it easy though, as she needed to fight back from 5-3 down in the opening set and worked hard to earn the decisive break in the second set.

“I expected a tough match, and it was a tough one,” Bouchard said. “I definitely feel like I didn’t play my best most of the match, but I competed well when it counted, and I raised my level at some big points, like at 5-all in both sets. I think I played better in those moments, and I’m proud of that. The first match of a tournament, especially a Grand Slam, is always a bit nervy.”

Spain’s Silvia Soler-Espinosa reached the second round of the Championships with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Olga Govortsova. The Spaniard maintained a positive ratio with 26 winners to her 22 unforced errors. She is now set to battle the soaring Bouchard on grass for the first time in her career.

Bouchard and Soler-Espinosa met once on the WTA tour at the Strasbourg Open, which Bouchard won 6-3, 6-3 to reach the second round of the event. This is the first time they will meet on grass and is likely a contest that Bouchard will win in straight sets.

Prediction: Eugenie Bouchard in Straight Sets
