Nicolas Almagro Wimbledon

The plague of injuries and sickness ahead of the Wimbledon Championships has begun, as Spain’s Nicolas Almagro has officially withdrawn from the season’s third Grand Slam event. The Wimbledon referees office announced: “Nicolas Almagro has withdrawn from the gentlemen’s singles due to a foot injury.” The reason behind Almagro’s withdrawal is a foot injury that has bothered him over the past few weeks. He has clearly been a hampered player of the past while, as he failed to get past his second match in Rome and lost his opener at Roland Garros to Jack Sock. While he skipped the early grass court tournaments to help his recovery, Almagro realized he simply was not going to recover full mobility in his left foot in time for the prestigious event. The withdrawal of the 25th-seeded clay-court specialist means Vasek Pospisil of Canada has been elevated into the seedings at No. 31, with Russia’s Dmitry Tursunov staying at 32. Wimbledon is set to begin Monday, June 23.
