Roger Federer has officially picked up his first ATP win since the birth of his second set of twins earlier this month. He is now scheduled to face qualifier Diego Sebastian Schwartzman in the second round of the French Open 2014. It will mark the first time the two athletes will meet on the professional tour. World No. 4 Federer stormed into the second round with a 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 against Lukas Lacko. The only remaining Swiss seed in the tournament hit 40 winners and broke his Slovak opponent’s serve on five separate occasions. Quick Facts:
  • Roger Federer is competing in his 60th Grand Slam event.
  • He is 59-14 at the French Open.
“I’m happy I got off to a good start for the tournament here in Paris,” said Federer, who enters in top form following a run to the final at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters. “There’s always that little bit of feeling that if you don’t feel well, if the opponent plays great, you could lose early. I was happy getting the early signs out of the match that I was actually playing well and I was going to get my chances. I’m very pleased with the outcome.” Federer’s opponent, Diego Sebastian Schwartzman, won his Grand Slam debut against fellow qualifier Gastao Elias 6-4, 6-2, 7-5. His joy may be short lived, as he now has to face the former world No. 1 and multiple Grand Slam champion. These two competitors have never crossed paths previously on the professional tour. While there is always the possibility for a staggering upset at such events, it is highly unlikely we will witness one in this particular match. With his fellow countryman out of the draw, Federer will be looking to make a deep run this year in Paris. Prediction: Roger Federer in Straight Sets
