World No. 9 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (Profile) revealed today that he has begun partnerships with fellow countrymen Thierry Ascione and Nicolas Escude, who have singed on to coach the Frenchman for the foreseeable future.“We have been in touch for a while now,” Tsonga told reporters at the Paris Masters. “We have agreed on a project for my training and I am happy to begin this new adventure. The fact that there are two coaches means I’ll have two different points of view. They have already proven themselves as far as I am concerned. Thierry has worked very well with all the players he has had in the last few years and helped them progress. I am thinking of Nicolas Mahut and Kristina Mladenovic. “Nicolas has less experience as a coach but he was Fed Cup captain and that is a big plus. In any case it is not so much what he has done as a coach that matters – more what he achieved as a player.”Both Ascione and Escude will also continue working with Nicolas Mahut on top of their responsibilities towards Tsonga.
“Our new partnership will change nothing for Nico. When one coach is with me at a tournament, the other will be with him. When we are both playing the same tournament, well, they’ll both be there!”Tsonga recently split with coach Roger Rasheed citing geographical issues as the main reason behind their split. The Australian coach is currently working with World No. 22 Grigor Dimitrov.
