A.Radwanska beats Ivanovic in Paris, Errani also through to QFs

5th seed Sara Errani took on Spanish 20th seed Carla Suarez Navarro on Court Suzanne Lenglen. The Italian, last year’s losing finalist, led the head to head going into this match 9-5. This was a contest between two of the shortest players on the tour – both five foot four inches. Games went with serve until Suarez Navarro broke to lead 3-2. Games again went with serve until Errani broke to level at 4-4. At 5-5 Errani had a medical time. When she returned, Suarez Navarro again broke to lead 6-5 and served out the set at 7-5. Games went with serve in the second set until the 5th game when Suarez Navarro got a break and hold to lead 4-2. Errani then broke back to level and go on to take the set 6-4. Continuing this battle of long and exciting games, the Italian built 2-0 and 5-1 leads in the decider before Suarez Navarro broke and held for 3-5, but it was to no avail as Errani served out this cliff hanger at 6-3.

4th seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland played 14th seeded Serb and 2008 champion, Ana Ivanovic. The Pole has never gone beyond the fourth round at this slam, but she led the Serb 9-3 in the head to head stat going into this match. Radwanska got proceedings underway. The first two games took thirteen minutes and went to deuce and advantage on both sides of the court before the Pole broke and then led 3-0. Ivanovic then got on the scoreboard but, with too many unforced errors from the Serb, Radwanska served out the set at 6-2 in 43 minutes. The second set started with both players breaking then holding their serves. Radwanska broke again to lead 4-2 but so did Ivanovic. With Ivanovic serving in the 8th game, Radwanska played a superb banana but the Serb held with some stunning forehands. Radwanska, playing her typically consistent game, held and then broke a final time to take the set 6-4, to set up a meeting with Errani in the quarters.
