In the first semi final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Friday afternoon, the two Italians, 4th seed Sara Errani played her good friend and doubles partner Roberta Vinci, who had already taken out two top ten players in what proved to be her best singles campaign on the WTA tour to date. The higher ranked Italian took the first set 6- 3 which, seeing the score, looked relatively easy, but was in fact hard fought and took almost 50 minutes. Vinci got an immediate break of serve in the second set, but Errani broke straight back and held to 4-1 before Vinci got another game and then a break of her own for 3-4. Errani then ran away with the rest of the set to take it 6-3 and move into the finals.

8th seed Caroline Wozniacki started against 6th seed Petra Kvitova in the second semi and was immediately broken. Wozniacki got to 2-3 but the Czech went up 5-3 and broke the Dane again to take the set 6-3. Games went with serve in the second set until Wozniacki broke to lead 3-2, but Kvitova got the break back and went on to lead 5-4, with Wozniacki serving to stay in the match. As in the first set, the Czech got the break to take the set 6-4 and book her place in the final.
