Rafael Nadal took his place in the Semi Finals of the VTR Open with another straight forward win, this time over Spaniard Daniel Gimeno-Traver taking just 85 minutes to seal a 6-1 6-4 victory. He stormed through the first set for the loss of just one game, breaking twice and looking fairly dominant.

Gimeno Traver never looked like he could trouble Nadal on serve but at least added some respectability to the scoreline in the second, holding four times in a row without even facing a break point only to collapse at the first sign of pressure at 4-4. An unbelievable curling forehand down the line winner set up two break points for Nadal, who would take the second after Gimeno-Traver dumped a tame forehand into the net. It wouldn’t quite be the straight forward hold to round off the game that most anticipated as Gimeno-Traver had three break point opportunities to get the match back on serve but would fail to convert any of them. Nadal would then have three match points go by the wayside before the fourth was taken when Gimeno-Traver shanked a forehand into the stands.

Nadal will play Jeremy Chardy after the Frenchman’s comfortable 6-2 6-3 win over Paolo Lorenzi while Carlos Berlocq‘s walkover after Guillaume Rufin‘s withdrawal sees him face fellow Argentinian Horacio Zeballos in the other tie after Zeballos shocked Albert Ramos in three sets, eventually defeating the Spaniard 6-1 5-7 7-6(6).
