Djokovic beats Murray in group match at ATP Finals in London

tennis predictions

Novak Djokovic defeated Andy Murray in the second group match of the ATP World Tour Finals 2012 as he came back from a set down to win 4-6 6-3 7-5.

The first game saw the players testing each other. Murray forced a break point at 40-30 up on Novak’s serve and he grabbed it with a forehand passing shot to the huge delight of the home crowd. The British no.1 subsequently consolidated the break with comfortable hold to love to go 2-0 up. But now Djokovic stepped up a notch too, not allowing Murray a single point in the very next game, reducing the Olympic champion’s lead. Neither of the competitors encountered any more problems when serving, until the 9th game when Djoko was serving to stay in the set. After squandering a 40-0 lead, not only did he allow Murray to level at deuce, but the Brit got to his first set point just before overhitting a forehand on the run. Despite the Serb eventually holding, he was only delaying the inevitable as the 2012 US Open champion served out the set after 44 minutes of play. Djokovic started off the second set on a more positive note, this time holding his first service game to take a 1-0 lead. However, Murray’s movement and ground strokes were working really well, often managing to turn defence into offence. The Brit earned himself another break point in game three just for Djokovic to save it with a forehand drive volley winner and going on to hold. A chance to break for Djokovic suddenly appeared in the sixth game when 40-30 up on Murray’s serve and he welcomed it with arms wide open. After a failed serve and volley attempt from the Brit, Nole got the well needed boost, taking a 4-2 lead. When serving for the set at 5-3, he remained calm and focused, wrapping up the game to love and forcing a decider. The second game of the third set proved to be of the highest quality so far in today’s encounter, with both players being involved in some oustanding rallies. As Djokovic eventually held to level the score at 1-1, he subsequently took Murray’s serve after the Brit commiting one too many unforced errors. Some more problems emerged for Andy when serving at 1-3 and 30-40 down, but he got a bit lucky as his forehand mishit landed on the baseline just before Djokovic comitting a unforced error. A couple of minutes later, Murray wrapped up the game that was more than vital for him in order to keep his chances alive. The Serbian player applied some more pressure on him in game seven when 4-2 up, but failed to capitalise after getting to another break point. He paid dearly for it. After dropping serve in the very next game, he let Murray back into the match as the score was poised at 4-4. The drama was unfolding and the athmosphere at the O2 London arena was absolutely electrifying. Another key moment in the decider happened in the 11th game when Murray dropped his serve for the third time in today’s match, handing Djokovic the possibility to close it out. Despite the Serb facing two break points when serving for the match at 6-5, he saved them both to seal the victory after 2h and 34 minutes.
