A great start for Lucie Safarova and Petra Kvitova at Fed Cup 2012 final on their home soil. They beat Ivanovic and Kvitova in straight sets.

Neither of the former number one Serbian players managed to steal a set in today’s clashes at Fed Cup final in Prague. In the first match domestic player Safarova failed to consolidate her first break in the opener, but seized another one in the seventh game. Ana Ivanovic, who conceded seven double faults in total, had no opportunities to peg back, so the Czech served out the set in first attempt. Safarova broke Ivanovic in the opening game of the following set and saved two re-break points to consolidate it. She added another one to her tally in the last game of the encounter which she won with 6-4, 6-3.

8th-ranked Kvitova was even more convincing, especially in the second set. In the opening one Jelena Jankovic went 4-2 up, but the Czech turned the result around with the help of two consecutive breaks. Kvitova was in her own world now and could not be stopped until winning nine games in a row. Jankovic got on the board to reduce her opponent’s lead to 5-1 in the second set, but the outcome was already decided by then and Kvitova secured a second point for the home team with a hold in the following game. The result: 6-4, 6-1.
