Spaniard David Ferrer set up a Paris Masters 2012 quarter-final clash against the Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga after defeating Stanislas Wawrinka 6-2 4-6 6-2 in today’s third round encounter.
After the players split the first two sets, the Spaniard went up a break in the decider with some solid baseline hitting. Despite Wawrinka earning himself a couple of re-break points in the 7th game when 2-4 down, he couldn’t capitalise and it proved to be his last chance to stage a comeback. As the Swiss dropped his serve for the second time when serving to stay in the match at 2-5, Ferrer raised his arms in celebration.
The head to head record between Tsonga and Ferrer is set at 1-1, with the Frenchman having won their last encounter at the 2011 Wimbledon championships.
