In the first match on centre court at the Premier Mandatory Level China Open played on Friday afternoon, world number one Victoria Azarenka took on the surprise quarterfinalist from Switzerland Romina Oprandi, ranked at number 69. The Belarusian confirmed the role of a huge favourite against the Swiss player, prevailing in two easy sets 6-2 6-0.

Oprandi had won her first, second and third round matches in straight sets against Ursula Radwanska, Camila Giorgi and number 11 seed, Ana Ivanovic, respectively, but was no match for Azarenka, who steam rolled into a 6-2 first set with much higher percentages on service and break points, even though she did not serve a single ace. The second set was even easier for Azarenka, as she powered her way to a 6-0 game, set and match, not letting the Swiss player into the game at all. In all, Azarenka served one ace to Oprandi’s none; and no double faults to her opponent’s four. Oprandi could also not take advantage of any of the three break points offered to her and it was all over in less than an hour.

In the semis, Azarenka will play ninth seed Maron Bartoli of France, who overcame Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-0 2-6 6-4.
