Falla upsets Dolgopolov in Kuala Lumpur, Lopez also out

Colombian Alejandro Falla produced a fantastic performance in his encounter against  fourth seeded Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov, wrapping up a 6-3 3-6 6-3 win in just over one hour and a half.  Falla was more effective at the beginning as he broke Dolgopolov twice to take the opening set just before Dolgopolov pulled off a comeback in the second set and after taking his opponent’s serve once, he forced a decider.

In the third set, the Ukrainian struggle once again on serve and his groundstrokes lost on accuracy. Thus Falla managed to break twice on his way to the Malaysian Open quarterfinals, where he will face Frenchman Julien Benneteau. The Colombian got a revenge against Dolgopolov after being defeated in Brisbane this season.

Talking about upsets, Dutchman Igor Sijsling overpassed fifth seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in two tiebreakers 7-6 (0) 7-6 (2). Both players fired 11 aces in a very tight match and left-hander Lopez missed 6 breakspoints but Sijsling was absolutely dominant in the ‘breakers’.
