ONE SWEDE AND ONE SEED LEFT IN SONY SWEDISH OPEN SINGLES
The semi final line up has been determined in the Sony Swedish Open tournament in Bastad. The last Swedish player remaining is Johanna Larsson, who hardly raised a sweat in her few minutes on court against sixth seed Klara Zakopavova, who had to retire at 0-2 in the first set with a viral illness. The seventh seed is the only seeded player left in the draw – the up and coming German, Mona Barthel, who dispatched the second Swedish player in the quarter finals, Sofia Arvidsson, 6-3 6-4.
Saturday afternoon’s semis will see the French player, Mathilde Johansson, who defeated the out of form Shahar Peer of Israel 6-2 3-6 6-2, against Larsson; while Barthel takes on Polona Hercog of Slovenia, who put out Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria 3-6 7-5 6-4. These two matches will be followed by a doubles semi final featuring the Swedish pairing of Arvidsson and Larsson against Eva Hrdinova of the Czech Republic and Mervana Jugic-Salkic of Bosnia Herzegovina.
