She will next meet Iveta Benesova, who beat Russian qualifier Nina Bratchikova 6-1, 6-3.
Also through to the next round is world no.2 Petra Kvitova, after her opponent Maria Kirilenko of Russia retired injured at 6-0 1-0 down.
Kvitova’s next round opponent will be former world no.1 Ana Ivanovic.
Serena Williams outclassed Hungary’s Greta Arn 6-1 6-1 and will now face Ekaterina Makarova, who beat Vera Zvonareva.
