Marin Cilic beat fellow Croatian Ivan Ljubicic 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinal of the China Open and will face either Frenchman Tsonga or Czech’s Berdych in the final on Sunday.
Cilic had a 0-2 head-to-head record against Ljubicic going into the match, but after he broke Ljubicic to lead 5-4 in the first set, he managed to hold serve and close out the set. In the second set, Ljubicic had a few chances to go a break up, but failed to convert any of them. The punishment came as Cilic broke him twice and sealed the set winning 6-3.
