Sofia Kenin vs Irina Bara French Open 2020 Preview and Prediction

Sofia Kenin will hope for a less stressful time on Saturday when she takes on Irina Bara for a spot in the fourth round of the French Open. The Australian Open champion has a very live chance of making the final given she is the highest seed left in the bottom half of the draw. The winner of this one will play either Patricia Maria Tig or Fiona Ferro, the latter impressing so far post-lockdown.

Bara has been impressive at this French Open, winning five matches without dropping a set so far between qualifying and her two main draw matches so far. She followed up her shock win over Donna Vekic with a dominant win against Alison Van Uytvanck, leading 6-1 4-0 before the Belgian was forced to retire. Bara is a fairly defensive player who won’t take many errors, as her 6 errors in round two showed.

Kenin has been far from amazing in her first two matches, needing three sets to beat fairly weak opposition in both rounds. The latter win came against Ana Bogdan, where the No.4 seed came from a break down to beat the Romanian. “These two matches have been quite tough. I felt like I couldn’t find my rhythm in both of them and found a way at the end, so I’ll take it.” she said.

Kenin will need to improve eventually if she is going to pick up wins against the tougher players in her half of the draw. However, she should remain solid enough to eventually break down Bara where more inconsistent players failed in round two. Kenin will look to break down her opponent’s weak serve and remaining solid should be enough for her to come through this one.

Prediction – Sofia Kenin in straight sets
