Novak Djokovic vs Daniel Elahi Galan French Open 2020 Preview

Novak Djokovic looks to continue his winning streak when he faces Daniel Elahi Galan for a spot in the fourth round. Lucky loser Galan is in a slam third round for the first time in his career and has been rewarded with a prime-time appearance on Philippe Chatrier for his hard work. If he eases through this one as expected, Karen Khachanov or Christian Garin are next up.

Galan finally broke into the Top 150 after a tough slog at Challenger Tour level with a Newport Beach final helping him take the last step. After losing in qualifying, he was given a second chance and grasped it with both hands. After beating Cameron Norrie in round one, he was even more impressive in round two defeating Tennys Sandgren in straight sets. While the American is a far more dangerous prospect on hard courts, it is still a good scalp for the Colombian. He hit just 22 unforced errors in victory, holding solid throughout.

Djokovic breezed through his second round match with Ricardas Berankis, needing less than 90 minutes for a 6-1 6-2 6-2 win over the Lithuanian. The gulf in class showed in all aspects including on serve, where Djokovic dropped just two points on his first serve. “Historically, they count the most. So of course winning that many matches [at] each Slam is a great achievement, of course it makes me proud, makes me happy.” Djokovic said after his 70th win in Paris.

Djokovic faces a player in Galan who will be incapable of breaking down any part of his game nor has the power to trouble him for any decent period of time. This should be a fairly easy one for Djokovic, who remains the very heavy favourite to advance to the final from the top half of the draw.

Prediction – Novak Djokovic in straight sets
