Poland’s Iga Swiatek played an outstanding match against world no.1 Simona Halep to book a place in the quarter-finals of the French Open.
The promising 19 year old literally hit Simona off the court, winning 6-1 6-2 in just 1h and 7 minutes.
This was the second time the two players have met, with Halep prevailing in their previous match at last year’s Roland Garros R16 with 6-1 6-0.
However, this time around the tables have turned and Iga managed to outplay Simona in all departments, hitting big from the back of the court, but also throwing in quite a few dropshots just to keep Halep honest.
Swiatek will face the winner of the match between Trevisan and Mertens next. If she manages to maintain her performance from today, it will take some effort to stop her.
