Petra Kvitova vs Kateryna Kozlova US Open 2020 Preview and Prediction

While Petra Kvitova is not among the top tier of candidates to win the US Open, the two-time Wimbledon champion is one that can’t be written off given her peak performance level. The Czech should be a good pick to make at least the fourth reason with either Kirsten Flipkens or Jessica Pegula awaiting should she see off Kateryna Kozlova on Wednesday.

Kozlova saw off Whitney Osuigwe on Monday, defeating the young American in straight sets. It’s just the fourth time she has made it past the first round at a slam with the Ukrainian looking like she is destined to hang around the top 100 but not come close to the top 50 for much of the rest of her career.

Kvitova hit 23 winners in a powerful display against Irina Camelia Begu, beating the Romanian in straight sets 6-3 6-2. “I knew I had to be aggressive against her and always trying to push her from the first point,” Kvitova said afterwards. She was always on the front foot and avoided getting into a scrappy affair that could have ended poorly for her.

Kvitova has only made the quarter finals here, the worst career best of the four slams for her. Beating that may be tough for her but with the unpredictability of this tournament and a little luck, she could well be a contender. It shouldn’t be too difficult for her against Kozlova, who will likely get overpowered in this one.

Prediction – Petra Kvitova in straight sets
