Novak Djokovic will look to move one step closer to another US Open title on Friday, taking on Germany’s Jan Lennard Struff for a spot in the last 16. Djokovic remains the favourite for the tournament although none of his main rivals in the draw have been defeated just yet. The winner of this one plays Pablo Carreno Busta or Ricardas Berankis on Sunday.

Struff has been solid through his first two rounds with straight sets wins against Pedro Martinez and Michael Mmoh getting him this far. The latter saw a strong serving performance from the Germany, with 14 aces helping him remain unbroken on his way to the 6-2 6-2 7-5 victory.
Djokovic is still unbeaten in 2020 after a four set win against Kyle Edmund on Wednesday. He would lose a first set tiebreak but was always in control following a decisive break early in the second set, eventually closing out the match 6-7 6-3 6-4 6-2. “I made some breaks and then obviously after winning the second set I felt more comfortable. I was returning better, I started to read his serve better and I was pleased with my serve. Overall, it was a very good test and I am happy to get through.” he said afterwards.
Djokovic is 4-0 against Struff, including twice at slams. He should make that 5-0 in fairly routine style but if challenged the top seed will be able to kick things up a level. After the Edmund match, it was three of his last four matches that he fell a set down in before picking up the victory. “There are different conditions here, if we play on Arthur Ashe. He is a big server and there is not much breeze in here, so that probably helps the server. Let’s see. I like my chances in best-of-five.” Djokovic said on the German. He dropped just 4 games in their match up last week at the Western & Southern Open.
