A potential shock run to the final for Angelique Kerber remains a distinct possibility with the German in a wide open top quarter of the draw. It won’t be easy for her against Jennifer Brady but either play would likely be a comfortable favourite against the winner of the Yulia Putintseva-Petra Martic match.

Brady is already a winner on the tour this year, having won the Lexington tournament after the WTA Tour resumed. The American boasts a big serve and forehand and with the added consistency should shoot up the rankings further in 2021. She has been ruthless through her first three rounds, dropping a combined 14 games against Anna Blinkova, CiCi Bellis and Caroline Garcia.
Kerber is yet to drop a set through three matches either, most recently beating Ann Li 6-3 6-4 in the third round. It was a fairly clean performance for the German, who hit just 14 unforced errors in victory. “She played pretty well. I mean, especially her forehand. It was really a tough forehand also to return, and she hits the ball really fast and with a lot of spin,” Kerber said after the match. “I needed a little bit time to find my rhythm and to also know what to expect, because I had no idea what really to expect.
This will be a good insight into the improvements that Brady has made in the past year, taking on a savvy opponent back with the coach that brought her the most success. The added experience of Kerber and Beltz may be key in this one, especially without a loud home crowd boosting Brady.
Prediction – Angelique Kerber in three sets
