Andy Murray takes on Felix Auger Aliassime in one of the more fascinating clashes on Day 4 of the US Open. The 2012 champion will look to use his veteran savvy against the young Canadian, who is seeded 15th in the tournament. It could be an all-Brit affair in round three with the winner of this one looking likely to take on Daniel Evans.

Against an opponent with little hard court pedigree at all, Auger Aliassime may well have wanted a much easier time in round one than he did against Thiago Monteiro. He took four sets to beat the Brazilian and would have to win two tight breaks on his way to victory. The Canadian looked to be building on his promising 2019, having made two indoor finals before the tour shut down.
Murray saved a match point on his way to a stunning comeback victory against Yoshihito Nishioka. He needed four and a half hours to seal the 4-6 4-6 7-6(5) 7-6(4) 6-4 victory, an almighty feat given his injury struggles in the past. “They have one (an ice bath) in the locker room and they said it’s for emergencies, for me this is an emergency right now. My body hurts and I need to recover as best as possible.” Murray said afterwards, giving a good insight into the effort exerted in this win.
Murray may well have a hard time recovering in time for this one, against a much younger and more sprightly opponent. The first set may go a long way in deciding this one, especially if Auger Aliassime wins it.
Prediction – Felix Auger Aliassime in four sets
