Roger Federer looks to book his place in the quarter finals of the Miami Open Tuesday night but will have to be at his best to ensure victory against Daniil Medvedev. He will find himself back in the top 4 if he wins this match, something that will be important if he does intend to make a clay return this year.

After some disappointing losses over the last month, Medvedev has shown improvement this fortnight. He won a testy three setter against Reilly Opelka, getting the better of the American in three tiebreak sets.
There would no issues for Federer in his third round clash with Filip Krajinovic, avoiding another scrappy three setter. He hit 14 aces in a strong performance against the Serbian, breaking three times in the 7-5 6-3 win. “I thought I served very well, because Filip can return very well, especially on second serve. I know I could feel the pressure maybe, to some extent, if I don’t make the first serves.” he said. “I was able to hit my spots and keep the pressure on and shorten points as the match went on.”
Federer is 2-0 against the Russian including an easy victory in Basel earlier in the year. However, Federer is very wary of the threat the Russian poses. “I’m very impressed about his progress. I must say the last year has been unbelievable for him, very impressive.” he said.
