Kicking off the evening session on Tuesday at the Miami Open will be Petra Kvitova and Ashleigh Barty. It will be the third meeting between the two this season with Kvitova looking to go make it 3-0 as she hunts the World No.1 ranking that has eluded her to date.

After a disappointing loss to Venus Williams at Indian Wells, Kvitova has recovered well in making the quarter finals here. She toughed out a three setter against Donna Vekic before a fairly routine victory over Caroline Garcia on Monday. Backed by a strong serving performance, she broke three times overall in the 6-3 6-3 win while denying the Frenchwoman on her only break opportunity. “I think I played great match today from the beginning, which I’m very pleased with,” Kvitova said afterwards. A rain delay at 5-2 in the second did little to distract her, closing it out two games later.
Barty continues her rise up the rankings and will make her Top 10 debut unless Qiang Wang wins the tournament. The Australian remains a consistent force on the tour but is also more than capable of coming up with big results like her win over Kiki Bertens in the previous round. She came from a set down to beat Kiki Bertens, making it 4-0 against her with the 4-6 6-3 6-2 win.
“We played two times already in kind of different conditions but in Australia, which I think she really likes,” Kvitova said on Barty. She won’t be complacent but Kvitova will be favoured to advance again with her opponent not having the vocal home crowd to back her. “It’s always pretty difficult and it’s very tricky match. She can mix it up a lot. That’s why I need to be ready.”
Prediction – Petra Kvitova in straight sets
