Belinda Bencic looks to continue her stunning run of form on Thursday, taking on Karolina Pliskova for a spot in the semi finals at Indian Wells. The No.1 spot is no longer up for grabs for Pliskova but winning the title would leave her less than 100 points behind Naomi Osaka. Check out the Pliskova vs Bencic H2H stats.
Bencic is on a 9 match winning streak, dating back to Dubai. She added another scalp to her 2019 list with a dominant win of Naomi Osaka 6-3 6-1. She won over 80% of first serve points while making things incredibly difficult for the World No.1 throughout. Osaka hit 28 unforced errors to just 10 winners in the loss. was focusing on my game. “I’m very confident with my game right now. I’m hitting the ball well. So just things worked out for me.” a happy Bencic said afterwards.
Pliskova has gone about things quietly this week, making it four straight quarter finals for the year. Despite remaining a constant in the top 10, the Czech does not really get the attention that other top players do. She beat Anett Kontaveit in three sets to advance, 7-6 4-6 6-2. “I had a gameplan, but that doesn’t always make you win; you still have to play good points.” She said post match. “I think I served well and went for my shots.”
“We practiced a lot together. Obviously she has great serve and she’s playing very flat and fast.” Bencic said of Pliskova. “I think, you know, again, just focusing on my game, of course, a little bit tactical things, but I will think of that tomorrow. I don’t like to think so much ahead of the match.”
The Swiss is high on confidence and is setting up 2019 to finally be her year after so much promise. This would be another statement win and could put her in a good place to take a second straight title.
