David Goffin and Daniil Medvedev will face off on Day 6 of the Australian Open, looking to seal a place in the fourth round. It’s unlikely they get any further with the World No.1 Novak Djokovic likely to be waiting on Monday. Check out the Goffin vs Medvedev H2H matches.
Goffin fought back from a set down to beat Marius Copil. After dropping serve twice in that opening set, he sharpened up considerably to deny the Romanian any more break chances in the other three sets. Goffin has been a consistent presence at grand slams with multiple fourth round runs in each of the slams dating back to 2015. He was a quarter finalist in Australia 2 years ago but was overwhelmed by Grigor Dimitrov on that occasion.
For Medvedev, it would be a first slam fourth round for the Russian. He hopes to build on the excellent 2018 that saw him move from outside the top 80 to inside the top 20, thanks to multiple titles. Medvedev is a strong baseliner but doesn’t have the game style you’d expect from a player at his height of 6ft6in.
Medvedev should go into the match as favourite, despite the difference in experience between the two. He is constantly improving and will surely be grasping at the opportunity to wow the Rod Laver Arena crowd in the next round.
Prediction – Daniil Medvedev in four sets
