Novak Djokovic

After taking some time off to spend a short few weeks with his growing family, world No. 1 Novak Djokovic is in Paris, where he will contest a match-up against Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber for the sixth time on the professional tour. The Serb leads the head-to-head series 5-1, with four straight victories in their most recent outings. Check out the Djokovic vs Kohlschreiber H2H.

World No. 2 Roger Federer produced one of the most magnificent displays of serve and volley tennis in the last decade on the professional tour to defeat world No. 1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets at the Shanghai Rolex Masters semi-final. Federer closed out the match 6-4, 6-4 victory in 1 hour and 35 minutes.

His win snapped Djokovic’s 28-match win streak in China. He is also less than 500 points away from having his No. 1 ranking usurped by the 17-time Grand Slam champion, which is why a strong showing in Paris is vital to his year-end plans. He is riding a 22-match win streak on Indoor surfaces, dating back to 2012.

“It’s definitely a tough draw,” said Djokovic. “Kohlschreiber is a great quality player, who plays equally well on all surfaces. He has a very dynamic game, very fast all over the court, good serve. It’s a bit slower conditions here, so I think it’s more suitable to his style of the game. He played well today. I expect a tough one, definitely. I will just try to kind of pay attention to what I need to do, what I need to achieve on the court tactics-wise.”

World No. 24 Philipp Kohlscheiber needed just 62 minutes to dispatch France’s Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the second round of the Paris Bercy. The German lost just four first service points and saved all three of the break points he faced on serve.

This marks the seventh time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with Djokovic leading the series 5-1. Djokovic is 3-0 on hard court matches and 2-1 on clay. Their last meeting on a hard surface took place a couple of months ago at the US Open, which Djokvic won in straight sets 6-1 7-5 6-4.

Prediction: Novak Djokovic in Three Sets
