For the fourth time this season alone, Marin Cilic and Tommy Robredo will cross paths at a tournament on the ATP World Tour. With their head-to-head series split at 3-3, their latest meeting in the quarter-final round of the Kremlin Cup in Moscow will serve as a rubber match of sorts to determine who will take the lead in the series and move onto the semi-final round of the tournament.
Watch Live: Cilic vs Robredo
Potential Barclays ATP World Tour candidate Marin Cilic was faced with a tough opening match in Moscow, as he needed three sets to edge past Evgeny Donskoy on Wednesday evening. Cilic eventually defeated the wildcard entrant 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in 1 hour and 52 minutes after being down a break early in the final set.
“I am satisfied with my game in this match,” he said. “In the first match you just get the feel of the game. From the back of the court I felt I could have played better. Evgeny Donskoy surprised me today because I have never played against him before.
Cilic’s next opponent is the sixth seed in Moscow Tommy Robredo, who defeated Filip Krajinovic 6-3, 6-4 in 59 minutes. Robredo is finding his form late-season, as he is coming off a finals showing against Andy Murray in Shenzhen, where he held match points before losing to the Scot in three sets. He holds a 38-23 record so far this season and will be looking for a final push during this late part of the season.
This marks the seventh time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with the series tied at 3-3. Cilic has won two of their three meetings this season to date, including the hard court encounter at Indian Wells. Motivated by a potential spot in the WTF next month, Cilic will look for a solid performance against an inspired Robredo.
Prediction: Tommy Robredo in Three Sets
