Serena Williams

Following a compelling fortnight at the United States Open, much has changed in the landscape of women’s tennis, including the rankings for many of the competitors inside the Top 20.

Having won her first Grand Slam title of the season, Serena Williams still sits atop the WTA rankings with almost 3300 points separating her from world No. 2 Simona Halep. Maria Sharapova rose two spots to world No. 4, while Li Na took her previous place at No. 6 following her injuries.

After reaching the final, Caroline Wozniacki returned to the Top 10 at No. 9, while former world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka plummeted outside the Top 20 in the rankings.

In one of the more heartwarming rises in 2014, Venus Williams continues to push up her ranking into the Top 20, where she currently sits at No. 19.
