Following a pair of hard fought three set battles, Caroline Wozniacki and Sara Errani will meet in a rubber match to determine who will move on to the final four at the US Open 2014. The series is currently tied at 1-1 but this will mark their first meeting in nearly four years. Check out the Wozniacki vs Errani Head to Head.
No.13 seed Sara Errani took part in a grueling battle to start the morning off on Arthur Ashe Stadium, where she defeated Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 to advance to the quarter-final.
“I like to run. I love running,” Errani, who hit just nine unforced errors, said in her on-court interview. “I try to be consistent to run and be in every point. I want to fight. The other players have bigger strokes than me, but I try to stay in the match that way. It was a tough match, I felt good mentally.”.
Wozniacki picked up one of her biggest wins in years when she defeated Maria Sharapova in three sets to reach the quarter-final round of the tournament. After jumping to a 3-0 lead to start the match, Wozniacki fought hard to maintain her lead and closed out the set 6-3. Sharapova tightened her game up in the second set, which she snatched 6-2 to force a decider.
The two continued to bring the best out of each other early in the third set, until Wozniacki pushed for the 3-1 lead, which she extended to 5-2 before ending the contest 6-3,2-6,6-2.
“It means a lot to me. You know, the season for me has been a little bit up and down, and it’s so nice to kind of start feeling like I’m playing the way I want to. You know, this hard court season has been amazing for me. I actually started already feeling really good on court since Eastbourne. I have just been building on my game since then.”
Prediction: Caroline Wozniacki in Straight Sets
