Angelique Kerber

Following dominant performances in their quarter-final match-ups, Serbia’s Ana Ivanovic and Germany’s Angelique Kerber will meet to determine who will move onto the final of the Toray Pan Pacific Open on Sunday afternoon. This marks the seventh time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour, with Ivanovic leading the head-to-head series 4-2. Which includes a victory in Dubai earlier this season.

Serbian No. 1 Ana Ivanovic toppled Lucie Safarova 6-3, 6-2 to pick up her first victory over the Czech-native in six years. It was an impressive performance from Ivanovic, who played a poised and error-free game to earn the victory.

“From the first moment, I tried not to think too much about the score and just the next point, the next game, and that’s what I did really well. I was really pleased with that and felt that I played a really good match today,” Ivanovic said.

Next for Ivanovic is Angelique Kerber, who cruised past Dominika Cibulkova 6-3, 6-0 to reach the final eight in Tokyo. The contest last a total of 61 minutes and was an entirely one-sided affair.

This marks the seventh time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour and will likely be a competitive affair, as has been the case with many of their previous match-ups. Ivanovic already holds a win over Kerber this season and will be motivated to overtake her in the WTA standings for Singapore.

Prediction: Ana Ivanovic in Three Sets
