Tommy Robredo vs Jack Sock Preview – ATP Cincinnati 2014 Round 1

Tommy Robredo

A highly compelling first round match-up between surging American Jack Sock and the inspired Tommy Robredo is scheduled to take place at the Wesstern & Southern Open in Cincinnati. This will mark the firs time these two competitors will cross paths on the professional tour and should make for an entertaining affair.

It has been an interesting few weeks for Spain’s Tommy Robredo, who reached the final in Umag on clay before arriving in Toronto, where he beat Philipp Kohlschreiber and Gilles Simon before losing to Grigor Dimitrov in a tight three-set battle in the third round of the tournament. He will be looking to maintain that level of tennis when he arrives in Cincinnati and faces a threatening young talent in Jack Sock.

The American’s life changed entirely following his Wimbledon doubles title with Vasek Pospisil. He reached the semi-final in Newport, where he lost to Lleyton Hewitt, the semi-final in Atlanta (lost to John Isner) and then took Milos Raonic to three sets in their second round encounter in Toronto. He appears confident and is poised to continue his breakthrough season with more impressive wins over the coming weeks.

This marks the first time these two competitors will meet on the professional tour and has the makings of a highly intriguing encounter. While Robredo is the veteran, I will go with the big-serving Sock to make his mark early at the Cincinnati Masters event.

Prediction: Jack Sock in Three Sets
